A meta-analysis of functional neuroimaging studies on developmental dyslexia across European orthographies: the ADOD model

چکیده
According to the “classic” and “new” model, developmental dyslexia (DD) is associated with dysfunctions of left temporoparietal (TP), ventral occipitotemporal (vOT) frontal brain circuits. However, these models make different anatomo-functional predictions about effects age orthographic depth on neural correlates DD. To test influence their interaction neurobiology reading we meta-analyzed 34 fMRI studies by combining CluB GingerALE methods. Our meta-analytic results challenged both allowed us generate a refined neurocognitive framework called “Anatomo-functional, Developmental, Orthographic Depth (ADOD) model DD”. The ADOD describes interacting orthography DD suggests brand new conceptions role TP cortex in together subtler parcellation vOT areas according rostro-caudal gradient.

Predictors of developmental dyslexia in European orthographies with varying complexity.
BACKGROUND The relationship between phoneme awareness, rapid automatized naming (RAN), verbal short-term/working memory (ST/WM) and diagnostic category is investigated in control and dyslexic children, and the extent to which this depends on orthographic complexity. METHODS General cognitive, phonological and literacy skills were tested in 1,138 control and 1,114 dyslexic children speaking s...
متن کاملFunctional neuroimaging studies of reading and reading disability (developmental dyslexia).
Converging evidence from a number of neuroimaging studies, including our own, suggest that fluent word identification in reading is related to the functional integrity of two consolidated left hemisphere (LH) posterior systems: a dorsal (temporo-parietal) circuit and a ventral (occipito-temporal) circuit. This posterior system is functionally disrupted in developmental dyslexia. Reading disable...
متن کاملthe effectiveness of strategy-based instruction in teaching english as a second or foreign language: a meta-analysis of experimental studies
a large number of single research studies on the effects of strategy-based instruction (sbi) in teaching english as a foreign or second language has been conducted so far. however, the lack of a comprehensive meta-analysis targeting the effectiveness of english language sbi is observed. moreover, the findings of experimental studies regarding the context of the english language, proficiency lev...
a comparative pragmatic analysis of the speech act of “disagreement” across english and persian
the speech act of disagreement has been one of the speech acts that has received the least attention in the field of pragmatics. this study investigates the ways power relations, social distance, formality of the context, gender, and language proficiency (for efl learners) influence disagreement and politeness strategies. the participants of the study were 200 male and female native persian s...
15 صفحه اولDyslexic brain activation abnormalities in deep and shallow orthographies: A meta‐analysis of 28 functional neuroimaging studies
We used coordinate-based meta-analysis to objectively quantify commonalities and differences of dyslexic functional brain abnormalities between alphabetic languages differing in orthographic depth. Specifically, we compared foci of under- and overactivation in dyslexic readers relative to nonimpaired readers reported in 14 studies in deep orthographies (DO: English) and in 14 studies in shallow...
